So, I promise not to turn this into a big advertisement for my works, but this current sale on Amazon is too amazing not to pass on to interested readers of Japanese folklore.
As I write this, Yurei: The Japanese Ghost is 52% off on Amazon.com. I can’t guarantee how long that discount will remain in place–this is all Amazon’s doing, not mine! But it’s a great chance for anyone interested in my book to get it at a super price!
Here’s the link:

And if you are interested in any stocking stuffers, my publisher Chin Music Press has my translation of the Miminashi Hoichi (Earless Hoichi) story for sale for $5.

Thanks! I do this site for free, and while I love it I really appreciate anyone supporting me and this site by buying some of my books and translations!!! Thanks for your support!!!

Picked up my copy (it’s been on my wishlist since it was published), since regrettably–money is a thing and this made it more affordable. NO REGRETS AT ALL. I’ve commented before on this site, and an so grateful I found it. The book is wonderful, giving a deeper look at many things I’ve been curious about but didn’t even know where to START. Weaving them together with things I’m already familiar with, and in a way that doesn’t condescend but is entertaining while making one think. Thank you so much!
Mild non-sequitur. Okiku was my first Yurei; studied back in Middle School (mid 90s) when I was first researching Japanese folklore. She remains my favorite, but I adored learning more about her and the San O Yurei, and how they all intertwine. I also want to say thanks for the chapter specifically about the Ugetsu Monogatari. It too, is on my Amazon List and I am glad to have more background about it now so I am prepared when I dive in.
Overall…love the book. AM sad I was not able to buy sooner, but am so glad I’ve been able to buy it at all.

I got this book as a Christmas gift and am almost done with it. It’s awesome! I got interested in yokai after watching Natsume Yujin-Cho and asked for yokai books for Christmas. This was one of three I got, and it’s been fascinating. My husband bought it for me, and I think he’s a little jealous of his own present because he keeps asking me about it. I’m enjoying it immensely. Thanks for writing it!

I’ve read your blog for a long time now and am really excited to have finally picked up a copy. It’s beautiful in person, but my only concern is that you’re being fairly compensated – I felt guilty paying so little on Amazon!
Thanks for all the work you do!

Thanks! I REALLY appreciate that! And don’t worry … the sale price doesn’t affect me at all. Royalties come from the wholesale price–whatever discounts the retailer applies only affect that company’s profits. I’m just happy whenever someone buys the book, at whatever price they get it for. Of course, if you want to go the extra mile I would love it if you would leave a review on Amazon after you are done reading it. Even a few lines goes a long way!
